role:

Lead Designer

Aug-Sept

2018

overview:

Blue Marble introduced its first product for younger children, the soft foam stepping stones, and sought to align it with National Geographic's newly launched NG Kids program. As there was no official packaging style guide for NG Kids at the time, Blue Marble was authorized to develop new packaging that incorporated elements of NG Kids' branding. The objective was to create a youth-oriented version of the existing STEM line while maintaining a cohesive series appearance.

solution:

For our new kid-friendly line, we aimed for continuity with our STEM series. We retained key elements like the hex, title, logo placement, and yellow border in similar positions on the NG Kids packaging to ensure visual consistency.
To infuse a friendly vibe, we combined product photography with cutout construction paper-style illustrations, reminiscent of a kid's art project. Animals were introduced to make the packaging more inviting, aligning with the stepping stones play pattern. Our ultimate goal was to create a clean, friendly box that showcased a playful landscape, capturing a child's imagination while effectively communicating the product's function.

my role:

I was the lead designer for the branding identity of converting NG Kids branding into packaging, which included font usage, color, copy language, photography, packaging, and illustration.
